Pioneering, eccentric, absolute legend. All of these words can be used to describe Joe Blair. He has been shaping surfboards for longer than most of us have been on this planet. Joe has taken three trips to Hainan already, and has taught us more about board design than anybody else, from his love of the quad-fin, to moving his fins up further on the board than most shapers, which allows for quicker turns. He can be credited with bringing the first Stand Up Paddleboards to this island, personally carrying boards with him directly from his shaping room in Solano Beach, California, to Hainan.

We look forward to his return to Hainan for the 2010 Surfing Hainan Open, where he will again serve as one of the competition's judges. Check out more of Joe's crafts at his website.
